Snakes are one of those types of creatures that tends to scare most people. Like spiders, sharks, alligators and scorpions, snakes are feared by most humans, presumably due to historical reasons where snakes were a frequently unwelcome encounter that had the potential to kill people.
However, not all snakes are venomous, and most snakes prefer to avoid humans and areas that are populated. Snakes are also kept as pets by many people, and are even worshiped in some cultures.
For photographers, getting a good snapshot of a snake is tricky. There is the inherent risk of being bitten depending on the species of snake, and also snakes tend to move quickly to retreat when approached, so use of a telephoto lens might be required.
Here’s some unnervingly (for most people) detailed photographs of snakes.
